Horace Smith was born on 3rd August 1919 (Ely Q3-1919 3B:683) son of Charles and Florence E. SMITH (née TAYLOR) of Bury St. Edmunds

In the 1939 register, a farm labourer/pigman, he was at No.2 Beeches Road, West Row with his father Charles SMITH [28-1-1884] a farmer; mother Florence E SMITH [13-1-1884]; brothers George SMITH [1-3-1921] and Charles R SMITH [11-12-1917] a farm labourer.


Being in the R.A.S.C., without further information, it is impossible to sort out exactly where or how he died, Hunfeld being just inside the German/Dutch border.

He was originally buried in Hunfeld Town Cemetery, but re-interred in Hanover on 11th June 1947
